When we invited Irish born artist Eamon O’Kane IFA to exhibit in the lobby of 101 California
Street, he jumped at the opportunity to create new work focused on the building’s architect, Philip Johnson. O’Kane’s work is often
about Modernist architecture and the eu human experience, so exhibiting el in the lobby of a Philip Johnson cheap NFL jerseys building allowed him to explore those themes more deeply. Having curated exhibitions in this space for the past seven years, cheap NFL jerseys I now feel like I‘m looking at the 101 California Street lobby space differently – with a better appreciation of Johnson’s design.
Currently living in
Denmark, O’Kane came to San Francisco with rolled-up oil paintings and
plans to create a scale model of Johnson’s famous New residence, Glass
House. cheap NBA jerseys The paintings are of other famous Philip Johnson buildings, and they play with time, color and space often distorting the views of the buildings. The paintings are backdrops to the scale model of the house, but at the same time, the model is wholesale jerseys a prop to the paintings. In the end, the lobby of 101 California Street itself is both a backdrop and prop.
The highlight of the exhibit is a scale model structure of Johnson’s famous residence, Glass House. Inside the structure is a plasma screen showing an animation created by O’Kane featuring the Glass House set in nature slowly transforming as the seasons change. This is truly an exhibit that must be experienced in person. While standing inside the structure, the paintings are framed and dissected by the black lines of the Glass House. Beyond that, the lines and design of the lobby become part of the artist’s installation. Viewers will experience Johnson’s architecture from Eamon O’Kane’s uniquely creative and complex point of view. Don’t miss it!
