Scheduled to be completed at the end of 2018, The Broadway is a high-rise residential tower in Oakland. For the public art requirement, Oakland based artist David Huffman is creating a 45 foot tall glass piece that will define the front entrance of the building. The glass piece entitled Ascension is based on Huffman’s painting practice, and will be accompanied by a site-specific painting to be hung in the lobby.

Laconia Development, LLC engaged our services to guide them through the process of their public art requirement. Artist Jason Middlebrook created an immersive piece for the public plaza component of this mixed-use residential development. Water Light is made of three components; an abstract mosaic mural, a water feature, and arc designs in the floor of the plaza. The abstract mosaic composition is made up of hundreds of hand-cut glass and ceramic tiles with arcs in mirrored glass. The composition captures and reflects the patterns of the sky while the arcs of water at the base provide movement and interaction. The cement arc designs in the plaza floor draw visitors into the plaza from the sidewalk.
